How to remove a background from an image

June 30, 2026 · 3 min read

A transparent cutout makes a product photo, profile picture, or thumbnail look instantly more professional. You don't need Photoshop — here's how to do it in your browser.

Step by step

  1. 1Open the Background Remover and drop, browse, or paste (Ctrl+V) your image.
  2. 2Let the AI cut out the subject automatically — it usually nails it on the first pass.
  3. 3Refine the edges: use the Restore and Erase brushes to bring back or remove detail. Undo/Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z) is there if you overshoot.
  4. 4Choose your background — transparent, a solid colour, or keep the original — then crop if you like and download as PNG, WebP, or JPG.

Getting clean edges

Increase Edge feather slightly for hair and soft edges; use Expand mask to tighten or loosen the cutout by a pixel or two. PNG and WebP keep transparency — JPG fills it with white, which is fine when you're placing the image on a light background.

Your photo never leaves your device — the whole process runs locally.
